http://blog.thekid.me.uk

Today the next version of the Community Kit for SharePoint Enhanced Blog Edition has been released in beta for download. This version contains a number of new features and fixes which have been requested by the SharePoint community.

Highlights include...

1. Themes can be defined at the site collection level
2. Blog comments by authenticated users
3. Activation possible from a Site Template (onet.xml)
4. Possible to theme Wiki pages
5. Settings can be set in a Site Template (onet.xml)
6. Localisation (FR & ES)
7. Menu control to allow use of the Quick Launch navigation
8. Support for Search Server Express
9. Folder heirachy support on the List XML control
10. IsBlogContributor added to allow non owners the ability to author
11. Cookies removed if theme does not exist.
12. Feature activation 'access denied' bug solved.
13. Spam deleted immediately if set to do so.

Whilst this has been extensively tested changes are still being made and it is hard for us to cover all scenarios. If you can help with testing this beta then we would be grateful and will make the final release much more reliable.

You can access the beta download from http://www.codeplex.com/CKS/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=16341 and you will be able to upgrade your current installation using STSADM -o upgradesolution

I wanted to speak to a CKS:EBE expert. I'm planning on installing and running CKS:EBE on one of my sites. Can you connect me with someone?

Another nice feature which I think you should consider adding is RSS Feed Reading simular to the RSS:List, such as EBE:RSS. I posted this around May at the Codeplex site, but it seems like the post is gone.

Kanwai, What do you want to know...I probably know more than most! bazztrap, I don't know of any commercial ones providing just a blog, but I have heared of ones installing the feature on thier servers for you to activate if you have SharePoint hosting with them. LWikmark, Can you give me some more details of what you are after, RSS isn't normally that hard to do...I may be able to add it before the next release. --Vince

Basically I want to have the blog pages to include RSS feeds from other sites such as a news feed or predefined google search. What I've done now is to modify the master page to include a web part zone, modified each EBE page and added a RSS Feed Reader web part in the zone. However, since I'd like to have the feed on all blog pages, it would be a lot better to have it defined in the master page. Since the site in question isn't up and running with EBE yet (only locally on a staging server), I'm not able to show you. The WSS2 site, which is the homepage for a very small bowling club in Norway, is live and available at www.litego.no.

Thanks for the great work you do and the effort you put in to EBE! I can't wait until the 2.5 version is released and stable. However, I can't get the version available for download to work. No error messages, but all of the pages are shown as Sharepoint defaults. I've tried to depoly the 2008-10-14 build on 2 servers, with the same result. I've emptied the .net assembly cache, restarted servers and redeployed the solution, but with no luck. Any idea?

I am pretty sure that you can already do that with the 2.0 release, there is a control for RSS feeds...<EBE:RssFeed />, to which you can apply an XSL style sheet. I haven't heard of that problem, but my guess would be that either the WebApp feature isn't enabled or the WebConfig modifications didn't work...check web.config for the HttpModule for the EBE. --Vince

Hey Vince. Thanks for the headsup on the beta upgrade. Does the security screening actually screen trackback URLs? It's working fine for the comments, but the older version didn't screen trackbacks. I just installed the beta so we'll see how it works out. Will keep you posted and thanks again. -Clement

Sorry to bother you again, but I would like to purpose another feature for the next release. It seems like the HTML header returned to the browser doesn't include RSS feed meta tags. I think it would be great if the EBE would return the appropriate meta tags in the header to provide RSS feeds for all categories such as: <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" TITLE="All posts" HREF="http://MyServer/rss.xml" /> <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" TITLE="Sharepoint posts" HREF="http://MyServer/rss.xml?cat=Sharepoint" /> And again, thanks for a brilliant solution!

As described previously, I've been working on an EBE based site for a Norwegian bowling team. It's now launched with EBE 2.5 beta (with some issues), and is available at www.litego.no. The site is (of course) in Norwegian, but still, it might give anyone else the ideas they need. Thanks!

New site launched based on the CKS:EBE 2.5 release (www.wikmark.name). There's still some work to be done, but it's good enough to launch. You're more than welcome to comment. N'Joy!

Hi Vince, Having some issues with the metaweblogapi implementation in EBE? I'm using live writer and if i open a post that i previously published with categories, it doesn't retrieve the categories and i have to remember what i had previously set when re-publishing? Also, there is no facility to add tags to the post in addition to categories? Any help you can offer is much appreciated! Thanks, Justin
