I had developed a team site on a virtual machine with the intention to move it to a WSS install once it was ready. I planned on using STSADM -o export to achieve this.
Initially I had a problem exporting the site because of a feature I had created and then changed from being Site scoped (Web) to Site Collection scoped (Site). I received the following error...
FatalError: Failed to compare two elements in the array
Not sure what this was I googled it and found Steven Van de Craen's post (thanks Steven), which provided me with an excellent tool to fix the problem. Once fixed I successfully exported the site and moved onto importing it, which is when the rest of the problems started.
It appears that I had some features activated which did not exist on the WSS installation. This was just a simple team site, with my feature activated, but I hadn't activated anything else and my feature was installed on the destination. So it turns out that MOSS adds some additional features to the team site template, making it impossible to import the site into WSS!
Thanks to Steven's tool you can see the different features which are activated on the two sites...

So, by using the Faulty Feature Tool I was able to remove the additional features added by MOSS, export the site and successfully import the site into WSS. This tool has now been added to my USB drive, so I have it when I need it...I suggest you do too, one day you'll need it.
